Jewelry Care

General Care

Always remove jewelry before swimming, showering, cleaning, or exercising.

Avoid contact with chlorine, cleaning products, cosmetics, and perfumes. A good practice is to make jewelry the last item you put on when getting ready in the morning, and the first item removed in the evening. Store jewelry in a cool, dry place. Us a soft microfiber cloth to remove dust and dirt as needed.

For a deeper cleaning, use a jewelry polishing cloth or liquid jewelry cleaner made for the metal you are cleaning. Gemstones can be wiped down with a non-abrasive damp cloth. Do not use metal cleaners on gemstones, as these can damage gem surfaces. Always dry your jewelry thoroughly before storing.

Can I wear my jewelry in the pool/ocean/shower?

We recommend removing all jewelry before swimming or showering. Chorine and salt water can cause metals to tarnish more quickly, and can damage some gemstones (i.e., pearls). Fresh water alone will not damage your jewelry, but exposure to moisture may lead to the need for more frequent and deeper cleanings to maintain shine and luster.

Will my jewelry tarnish?

Tarnish is a natural process that occurs when metals react with compounds found in the air and environment. To slow the process, avoid contact with chemicals, cosmetics, and perfumes, and always remove your jewelry before swimming or showering. If your piece does tarnish, don’t worry. A quick polish with a jewelry polishing cloth or liquid jewelry cleaner will restore your jewelry to like-new shine.

Gold-Filled: Gold –filled jewelry is the least susceptible to tarnish, due to the thick layer of solid gold. It may benefit from an occasional light polish to shine its brightest.

Sterling Silver and Bronze: These metals are more likely to tarnish over time, especially when exposed to moisture. However, tarnish is not permanent. A quick polish will restore jewelry to like-new shine. Always check the label on your jewelry cleaning product to make sure it is safe for the metal you are cleaning. Do not use cleaning products on gemstones or pearls.

Fun fact: Sterling silver jewelry benefits from frequent wear, as the natural oils on your skin give it a degree of protection from tarnish. Wear your silver jewelry proudly and often!
